Understanding Postpartum Women Therapy
At Resilient Roots Counseling & Consulting, we know that the postpartum period can be one of the most vulnerable and transformative seasons in a woman’s life. The emotional, physical, and hormonal shifts—paired with the expectations of caring for a new baby—can feel overwhelming, isolating, and deeply confusing. Postpartum anxiety, depression, irritability, intrusive thoughts, or simply feeling “not like yourself” are more common than most women are ever told.
Our approach to postpartum therapy is centered on you—your healing, your needs, your voice. We believe that when a woman is supported, validated, and emotionally grounded, the entire family benefits. Therapy provides a safe, compassionate space where you can talk openly about your experiences without judgment, explore your identity in this new season, and learn tools to regulate emotions, reduce overwhelm, and reconnect with yourself.
While family relationships and support systems can play a meaningful role in postpartum recovery, our primary focus is ensuring that you feel seen, heard, and cared for. We help you navigate the complexities of postpartum life—whether you’re coping with anxiety or depression, managing intrusive thoughts, grieving the birth you hoped for, or adjusting to the intense demands of motherhood.
You deserve support that centers your well-being, honors your experience, and helps you feel like yourself again. At Resilient Roots, we walk with you through each step of healing, offering grounding, clarity, and a space to breathe.
Persistent sadness, hopelessness, irritability, crying spells, or loss of interest in things you used to enjoy
Excessive worry, racing thoughts, tension, difficulty relaxing, or constant fear that something bad will happen
Trauma reactions related to a difficult birth, NICU stay, medical complications, or past trauma being triggered
Sudden, intense anger that feels out of character
Some common issues with postpartum women include:
Feeling “not like yourself” or disconnected from your identity
Loneliness or isolation, even with support around
Physical recovery from birth (C-section recovery, pelvic floor pain, tearing, breastfeeding pain, etc.)
Guilt or shame about parenting
Shift in identity and sense of self
Therapy Can Help
The postpartum period can be beautiful, but it can also be overwhelming, isolating, and emotionally challenging.

You don’t have to go through this alone. Therapy can help you feel seen, supported, and empowered as you navigate this season of life.
Our Approach to Postpartum Women Therapy
Alyssa Paglio, LCSWA
Therapist at Resilient Roots Counseling & Consulting
Postpartum women therapy is important because it is a profound experience that alters a woman's life and identity.
There are impactful physical and mental shifts that happen after birth, along with intense hormonal drop, which often leads to anxiety/depression/paranoia. It is common for a woman to look back and see that there was a before children, and after children identity, lifestyle, etc.
Postpartum recovery is still highly stigmatized and often glamorized through social media, even with supportive partners and immediate family. It's important to hold space and acknowledge that yes, motherhood is beautiful but it is hard. Both truths can exist at the same time and essential care is important for mother-child bonding and for the family as a whole.
In a society that continues to tell women that we need to hold it all together no matter what, it's important that we keep voicing our needs and voicing the realities of postpartum health and recovery.
My approach to supporting postpartum women is grounded in compassion, creating a safe space, and offering gentle, direct guidance.
I gave birth to my beautiful daughter in 2023 and although I thought I was prepared for what was to come, no book or shared experience prepared me for the lived experience. My postpartum journey was accompanied with a supportive partner and friends, however, it did not ease the grief of my pre child life nor ease the postpartum anxiety and paranoia I ended up experiencing. I sought out individual therapy that specializes in postpartum recovery, in doing so, it changed my postpartum experience, helped me find the tools to manage my symptoms and increased my relationship with my daughter and partner.
